Where is Authgear based?
In the UK. Authgear is built and owned by a UK company.
What's the difference between data residency and data sovereignty?
Data residency is where the data is stored. Data sovereignty also asks who runs the system and whose law applies to that company. A US company's data centre in Europe gives you residency, not sovereignty.
Does the US CLOUD Act apply to my users' data?
It depends on who holds the data. If you self-host Authgear on a UK- or EU-owned provider, or run a private cloud on one, no US company holds your users' data. Read more about the CLOUD Act
Can I keep user data in the UK?
Yes. Self-host Authgear on UK infrastructure, or choose a private cloud and we run a dedicated deployment for you in a UK region.
Where is my data stored on Authgear Cloud?
In the United States or Hong Kong. You choose the region when you create a project. We don't offer an EU region yet, so join the waitlist if you need one.
Can I keep all user data inside the EU today?
Yes, in two ways. Self-host Authgear on any EU provider or your own hardware, or choose private cloud and we run a dedicated deployment for you in an EU region. Either way, your user data stays inside the EU.
Do you sign a Data Processing Agreement?
Yes. Read our DPA and the list of sub-processors.
Is the self-hosted version missing features?
No. The self-hosted version has the same features as Authgear Cloud.
What does self-hosting cost?
The software is free under Apache-2.0. You pay for your own infrastructure, and for support if you want it. Talk to us for a quote.
